In plain English
What is a VPS?
A VPS (virtual private server) is a virtual machine carved from a powerful physical host. You get root (or administrator) access, your own kernel-level isolation from other tenants on the same box, and freedom to install packages, Docker, and services - without paying for an entire dedicated server.
Performance is predictable within your vCPU and RAM allocation: bursts use your slice, not a shared PHP pool like typical shared hosting. When you outgrow VPS capacity - or need every disk spindle and core exclusively - bare metal is the next step.
